Network Marketing Success ~ The Odds?

network marketing successNetwork marketing success is so elusive that your odds of winning at the craps table in Las Vegas are actually much better.

Network marketing success is something that I was very fortunate to experience for many years therefore I take no pleasure in exposing this information. But the simple fact is studies have shown that more than 97% of the people that start a MLM or Network Marketing business NEVER experience network marketing success but rather LOSE money. 97%!!!

(ok… I’m being very generous)

In this 18 year research results “The Case (for and) against MLM: The Complete Guide to Understanding the Flaws – and Proving and Countering the Effects – of Endless Chain “Opportunity” Recruitment, or Product-based Pyramid Schemes. You can learn the statistical odds of you realizing network marketing success. You can download the entire research results for free at that website.

I am not advocating the book or even its author Dr. Jon Taylor. I am not even a fan of either, he is more the academic type with very little real world experience in the industry and zero success in the industry. But as I have said for years, the scoreboard doesn’t lie, it is what it is and the numbers just are what they are. He has done a good job of compiling the data and analyzing it.

I just realized after reading his entire 400+ page book that while I do not agree with everything he says and certainly can recognize a serious personal bias in his comments, however after more than 20 years of experience with a variety of MLM companies and reaching the top income levels in the industry, I have personally witnessed similar results achieved by the vast majority of participants, and that has always been a personal challenge for me.

In fact this is one of the reasons I myself have withdrawn from being a big promoter of most MLM programs that have come along in recent years. I just got to a point with my own personal convictions where I felt that I was only recruiting people to failure knowing that very few of them would ever experience network marketing success, I just could not do that with a clear conscience. In my early years I was just too naïve and inexperienced to recognize the reality of what was right in front of me the whole time.

In his research Dr. Taylor finds:

The odds of profiting by investing in a clearly illegal no-product pyramid scheme2 (with all winners re-investing) is approximately –

  • 667 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as an Amway/Quixtar “distributor”
  • 111 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Nu Skin “distributor”
  • 69 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Melaleuca “distributor”

The odds of winning from a single spin of the wheel in a game of roulette in Las Vegas*** is approximately –

  • 286 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as an Amway/Quixtar “distributor”
  • 48 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Nu Skin “distributor”
  • 22 times as great as the odds of profiting after enrolling as a Melaleuca “distributor”

Similarly, the odds of winning with a single bet on snake eyes in a game of craps in Las Vegas are far greater than the odds of profiting from any of these MLM programs. In fact, the odds of earning a significant profit from virtually any MLM is no greater than the odds of throwing three sets of dice and getting snake eyes all three times!

Besides the dismal results achieved by more than 97% of participants is the extremely high drop out rates. Which I will get into more in a later post, for here I will just say that I personally became quite frustrated with the fact that I had to continue bringing in new recruits at a higher and higher pace as the years went on just to keep my organization at the same numbers. I used to quite often say “they are going out the back door as fast as I can bring them in the front door.”

If you have ever built a large organization in this industry I am certain you can relate to that.

But what is the average person to do if they have a dream of developing a large income with a work at home business? For so many years the most prevalent option was to get involved with a Network Marketing opportunity.

Well it just so happens that there is now an option available, while not new it is relatively new to North America, it is actually a ten year old international giant.

So how does this new model differ from MLM or Network Marketing? Just consider the following, does it look a little different than what you’ve seen in the past?

  • No Sign Up Fees
  • No Business Kits to Purchase
  • No Monthly Minimum Purchases
  • No Auto-Ship
  • No Attrition
  • No Website Fees
  • No Overpriced Products
  • No Added Expenses

What if you could simply continue to shop for the same items you currently shop for at the same merchants you currently purchase from? Sound pretty simple? IT IS.

No games, No gimmicks, No tricks just continue to do what you already do and get paid for it.
